Welcome to the Lions Club of Munmorah Summerland PointOur Club was chartered on 14 April 2008 and is situated on the Central Coast of NSW, approximately halfway between Sydney and Newcastle. We celebrated Christmas with our members on the 4th December at Swansea Workers Club. We had two visitors from England join us, Roland and Barbara. The buffet was excellent with a great variety of dishes and yummy cakes and sweets. This will be our last dinner meeting for 2011. We recently donated to sponsor a child at Wyong Disadvantaged Childrens Camp. Lion Phil has just sent off 250 pairs of spectacles for recycling. He definitely has an eye for his job. After a visit from Karen Pierpoint at the recent Zone Meeting, our members have agreed to donate $500.00 to enable Abbie at Blue Haven to be fitted with a walker. This walker for Abbie should be ready for Christmas. Sunday last, in the extreme heat, we had a picnic at Wyong Alison Homestead. We enjoyed the company of our Lions and good food. The Homestead is a credit to the volunteers who look after the home and its' surrounds. Unforunately this Homestead has since been razed to the ground by some mindless arsonist. So much history has been destroyed. The count to date, for dresses to clothe the little girls in East Timor at The Sister of St. Joseph Hospital/Orphanage, total 89 with 12 pyjamas and 10 bags. The next shipment will be in February so we will have more completed by then. Today, Marge and Noelene visited Vietnam Veterans Village and helped the residents, men and women, make their Christmas cards. Some of them were quite artistic. The members in this Lions Club have a combined total of 197 years of service volunteering.Ordinary people doing extraordinary things - supporting people with a disability, community greening, fundraising for worthwhile causes. On 15th November we are held our 3rd Annual General Meeting. Our club is almost four years old. How time flies. On Thursday 8th December at Lake Munmorah Public School, at their Carols by Candlelight, we ran the chocolate wheel and donated $727.00 to the school funds. We were very lucky with the weather and only had a very light shower. We also had a membership drive that night and have four prospective members who we have invited to our first dinner in February. Christmas Eve it was hot and sticky and we did a fundraising BBQ at Bunnings, Lake Haven. The goodies kept pouring out of Bunnings and many, many stopped off for a sausage sandwich and a cold drink. We had an extremely busy day and went home well satisfied. Be a part of the change at Munmorah Summerland Point Lions Club We are the LionsWe meet the needs of our local communities and the world.
